‘Flower Shoppe’ Piece 3
I’m excited to be releasing this new collection on Saturday! It’s something that’s been consuming me for months, whilst in between commissions. They’re deliberately bright, bold, clashing in juxtaposition of pattern and colour. I’ve had so much FUN painting these pieces!
What’s even more special, is the inspiration behind this collection. I’m not normally an artist who has who a story behind my pieces, but these ones do.
Some of you might be aware, that my day job is a teaching assistant principal. I love my job, the people I work with and especially the children. Whilst it’s an extremely rewarding profession, the role has changed dramatically just over the 18 years I’ve been teaching. The suite of pressure points currently facing the teaching profession have caused teacher workloads to reach an unsustainable level. Unfortunately, this has lead to many teachers leaving a profession that they absolutely love and are made for.
I have a beautiful and inspirational friend who has recently taken a step back from her career after feeling disheartened. She took the extremely brave leap of faith, and followed another dream and passion she had…she started up a flower farm! I’m in absolute awe of her bravery to step into the unknown, and turn her passion into a new, successful career. She’s doing amazing things, and her flower farm is going great guns! But most of all, she’s content, happy and fulfilled. I admire her strength and determination to pursue something that was once just a dream.
So she was my muse for this collection. Pieces that made me step outside my comfort zone and create artworks that don’t conform to traditional aesthetically pleasing artistic styles and techniques. I hope these pieces convey happiness, beauty in amongst chaos and that the viewers see something new and different each time they view each painting. She inspires me that one day I too, could follow my dream of becoming a full time artist.
